She is the Founder President of the Tamil Nadu Federation of Women Lawyers and initiated in bringing the women lawyers all over Tamil Nadu under the umbrella of the Federation.
She is a High Court Lawyer fighting for the cause of women for the past 25 years. She was the President of Women Lawyers Association, High Court, Chennai for three terms and Secretary of the Women Lawyers Associations for two terms. Served as Ex-Officio, Senate Member of Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Tamil Nadu.
She was the national Secretary of the All India Federation of Women Lawyers for two terms. She was the first lady advocate from Tamilnadu to be elected as the National President of the All India Federation of women lawyers for one term between 2011and 2012.Presently she is the parliamentarian of AIFWL.
She was working with the Women’s Movements for the past 35 years. She was the State President of National Federation of Indian Women and headed various organizations.
She has associated herself with the Legal Aid Movement in Tamil Nadu and lent her hand in helping the poor and downtrodden. She was chairing the Mahila Lok Adalat and Corporation Tax Appellate Lok Adalat as member. Presently she is the member of Pension Lok Adalat constituted by the High Court Legal Services Authority.
She was the Academic Counsel Member of the Queen Mary’s College, Chennai. Honorary Legal Adviser of Tamil Nadu State Women’s Commission and Member, Voluntary Action Bureau, Tamil Nadu Social Welfare Board.
She was the forerunner of the Legal Awareness Campaign in Tamil Nadu and had been a resource person in various seminars conducted by the Tamil Nadu State’s Women’ Commission, State Social Welfare Board, State Legal Services Authority and NGO’s specializing in Women Empowerment. When she was the President / Secretary of the Women Lawyers’ Association, High Court, Madras, She was instrumental in conducting legal awareness camps in collaboration with Tamilnadu Social Welfare Board.
She has been appointed by the Government of Tamilnadu in consultation with the Honourable Chief Justice of High Court, Madras as Non- Official member of the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority.
She was appointed as Member, State Supervisory Board on Pre Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostics Techniques Act.
She is a human rights activist and has filed Public Interest Litigations in the High Court of Madras. She is the District Advisory Board Member of Chennai Police. She is an Accredited Mediator in the High Court of Madras. She is practicing in both Civil side and Criminal side in the High Court and also specialized in Family Law.
She regularly writes Articles in various magazines and answers to the legal queries of the readers. She is the author of books such as Pennurumai Sattangal, Ulagamayamakkalum Pengalum, Uzhaikkum Magalir Urimai Sattangal, Pookkalin Porattam, Neethiyayai Thedi and Kelvikku Enna Badhil. The Government of TamilNadu has selected Kelvikku Enna Badhil for library purchase order. Kambam Bharathi Tamil Ilakkiya Peravai has given best author award for authoring Neethiyayai Thedi.
She has given lectures in Newyork Tamil Sangam, she has presented a paper on women empowerment through legislation in India in The International Conference of Women Lawyers, organised by FIDA at Nigeria.
She has been selected as woman of the year 2000 by American Biographical Institute. She was given best achievers award in 2002 by World Peace & Unity Council. She has been awarded Pennurumai Kavalar by Sattakathir a Tamil Legal Magazine. She has received Mega Magalir Virudhu from Mega TV.
J. Nisha Banu
An energetic lawyer presently practicing in Madurai Bench of Madras High Court. She is the President of the Women Advocates Association, Madurai Bench of Madras High Court. She is an accredited mediator in the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court. She was the counsel for Bar Council of India and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. She has specialized in Writ Jurisdiction and also does matters in both civil and criminal side of law. She was the Secretary of Mediation Centre, Madurai Bench of Madras High Court and is a panel lawyer in High Court Legal Services Authority, Madurai.
She is an Advocate of 21 years Bar experience at High Court, Madras. She had her professional career start under the able guidance of the legal luminary Mr.P.RAJAMANICKAM, Senior Counsel, Special Public Prosecutor - High Court of Madras, Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI), Customs & Central Excise, NDPS etc. She is a Post Graduate in Economics with a Bachelor’s degree in Law. V. J. LATHA
She is a practising advocate in High Court of Madras for the past 31 years. She is privileged to be the junior of Hon’ble (Late) Mr. Justice M. Srinivasan, Judge, Supreme Court of India and assisted him handling the civil cases.
She has given lecturers in Dr. Amebdkar Law College and member of Legal Aid Board and conducted counselling to the poor litigants. When she was the President of the women lawyers association in 1998-2000 conducted legal aid camps.
She is the panel lawyer of employee Provident Fund Organization, State Bank of India, Union Bank of India , Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation. She is member of continuous Lok Adalat constituted by the High Court of Madras. She had served as Government Advocate during the period 1991 to 1996.
She was Central Government’s Standing Counsel during 2008 – 2009. She has handled cases for TIIC, TNCSC, TNHB and Chennai Corporation. She was a panel lawyer in United India Insurance Company and national Insurance Company.
She is presently the President of Trichy Women Advocates Association. She is dealing with both civil and criminal matters. She is more towards social causes and works for the welfare of the children. She is the Member of the Child Welfare Committee comprising four districts – Trichy, Perambalur, Karur and Ariyalur, which aims at caring and protecting the children. She is the Advisory Member of many NGO’s. She is running an Old Age Home and Adolescent’s Counselling Centre. She is associated with Tamil Nadu Social Welfare Board and very much involved in giving training to various sections of people including police on various laws pertaining to women and children. She is an advocate practising law in District Sessions and Taluk Courts for 23 years in Coimbatore. She was the Secretary of the Coimbatore Women Advocate Association during 200-2001. She became the president of the association in the year 2006 to 2007 and continued to hold the post for another two terms. She is specialising in women related cases and fights for their cause.
She was the forerunner of the legal awareness programmes for women in Coimbatore and participated in nearly 1,000 awareness programmes. She has participated in various television and radio programmes to create awareness amongst women.
When she was the president of CWAA, she took the initiative to conduct the First State Conference of Tamil Nadu Federation of Women Lawyers at Coimbatore. 500 delegates participated and two seminars were conducted by the conference committee on women and mediation and Child Rights and Prevention of Sexual Abuse.
Presently, the Secretary of Women Advocates Association, Madurai Bench of Madras High Court. She is practicing in Writ Jurisdiction and in Civil side. Presently, she is Treasurer of Madurai Bench of Madras High Court Bar Association. She is the Vice President of Giant’s Group of Mathangi – Saheli. She is associated with the welfare activities of women. She had been given Best Woman Award – 2009 Madurai for legal practice and advise by Giant’s Group of Greater Madurai – Saheli. She is a panel lawyer of the High Court Legal Services Authority, Madurai.
She, a Master of Arts as well of Law, is a partner of Mcgan Law Firm, a firm of Advocates that deals with civil and criminal cases. She is a practising lawyer for the past 7 years.
She is the managing director of Sri Angala Parameswari Educational Trust, a trust that endeavours for the education of children. The trust manages and takes care of the entire administration of a School of Architecture at Ooty which is known as Mcgan’s Ooty School of Architecture which is acclaimed as one of the best architectural college functioning under Anna University. She is the Chairperson of Mcgan Ooty School of Architecture.
